In 2004, there was a fire in my apartment where everything was destroyed. I found some metal plates that had rusted and decide to print them. It made a uniquely beautiful pattern that I decided to recreate. For the rust grids, I took 3 inch squares of steel and rusted them myself. Then I rubbed ink into the rust stains and printed them to get the texture, design, & pattern. The colors I used in these rust grids are the colors I saw again and again in the pictures of the fire's aftermath. I sought to create something beautiful out damage and destruction.
